In the digital asset space, it operates primarily through its Swiss-based subsidiary, Laser Digital, which focuses on secondary trading, venture capital, and institutional-grade digital investment products. Nomura's mission is to bridge traditional finance (TradFi) with the digital economy by providing regulated, secure, and innovative blockchain-based solutions.

How Does Nomura Holdings Work?

Nomura integrates blockchain technology into its service suite through tokenization and 'on-chain finance.' This involves converting traditional assets, such as venture capital funds or credit funds, into digital tokens recorded on consortium blockchains like 'ibet for Fin.' Their processes emphasize regulatory compliance under frameworks like Japan's J-Ships, ensuring that digital transactions for institutional clients are as secure and legally sound as traditional ones.

Who Are the Founders of Nomura Holdings?

Nomura Holdings was founded by Tokushichi Nomura II in 1925. In the modern digital era, the firm's crypto initiatives are led by Group CEO Kentaro Okuda. Its digital asset arm, Laser Digital, was established by industry veterans Steven Ashley (Chairman), former head of Nomura's wholesale division, and Jez Mohideen (CEO), who previously served as Nomura’s Chief Digital Officer and has extensive expertise in algorithmic trading and derivatives.
